Grizzly Ranch Golf Club, a Marvel of The "Lost Sierra"

By. John K. Abendroth, PGA

Grizzly Ranch Golf Club should be on your golf bucket list as it is ranked as the #1 Public Golf Course in the Sierra Nevada and top -10 of Publicly-Accessible courses in California.

Golfers of all levels can enjoy the course as there are a variety of tee options ranging from forward tees at 5,374 yards back to 7,411 from the back tees for the long hitters.

Located 4-miles from Portola Calif, Grizzly Ranch is less than an an hour drive from Reno and Truckee and approximately a four hour thirty minute drive from the San Francisco Bay Area.

There are numerous lodging options and Grizzly Ranch can help customize your stay from Reno Casinos, private homes or condos in nearby Graeagle. This list of things to do is 5-star including horseback riding, river or lake fishing and how about driving a train at the Portola Railroad Museum, as you look over this list you may need to extend your stay. When I have stayed in the area I enjoy hearing the train traveling down the Feather River canyon as it blows it's horn, very fun to hear that.

Having played Grizzly Ranch Golf Club in the past ther is a unique quiet as you play, not sure if it is the higher altitude or the insulation of the beautiful trees but is is a reall cool atmosphere to play golf in.

As you look through the web-site, www.grizzlyranchliving.com you will see beautiful photos of the course, very complete list of things to do and a nice variety of rates as you plan the golf part of your adventure.

Lastly, as you play Grizzly Ranch...you can dream a bit, so take a look around the course at available homes or parcels where the limited number of homes can be built. I surely hope you can get to Grizzly Ranch for a first visit or a return trip as a number of my friends have done, you will enjoy the golf and the experience.
