The Memories of Francis Ouimet are told in "Francis" podcast

By John K. Abendroth, PGA

June 16-19 2022 the US Open returns to The Country Club in Brookline Ma, the site of the historically important win by Francis Ouimet who with his caddy Eddie Lowery by his side created golfing magic winning the US Open in 1913.

XM radio along with David Marr Jr produced a podcast with great detail of the win by Ouimet called Francis, here is a link that you can use to listen to this 48 minute gem.

One of the oldest clubs in the United States founded in 1882 The Country Club has hosted important championships over the years including the 1988 U.S. Open, 1999 Ryder Cup in addition to the up coming US Open.

Ouimet was not a one-hit wonder in winning the 1913 US Open in the playoff over Harry Vardon and Ted Ray, as he won the US Amateur in 1914 and 1931, The Boston Open 1934 and multiple championships in New England over the years and was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974 after his passing.

Eddie Lowery would become an important person in his own right becoming a car dealer in Northern California and great friend and employer of Ken Venturi and E. Harvie Ward. A long ways from him being the 10-year old caddy in that great championship 109 years ago.

The podcast "Francis" is a great listen for those of you who are golf fans or historians. I want to thank the USGA and SiriusXM radio for arranging for me to share this with you.

Enjoy!
