British Open Fun Facts:

Carnoustie has hosted 6 "Opens". The first was in 1931, won by "The Flying Scot", Tommy Armour. Subsequently, Carnoustie hosted the 1937 Open, won by Englishman Henry Cotton, the 1953 Open, won by Ben Hogan (he also won the U.S. Open the same year at Oakmont), the 1968 Open, won by Gary Player, the 1975 Open, won by Tom Watson, and of course, the 1999 Open, lost by Jean Van De Velde, and won by Scotsman Paul Lawrie.

Carnoustie has the infamous nickname of "Car-nasty", and is generally considered the most difficult test of all British Open venues

American's seem to really like the British Open, they have won 10 of the last 12 of them, including 3 by this "Woods" fellow.

Speaking of this "Woods" fellow, he holds the all time lowest score under par at the British Open, minus 19 at St. Andrews. This was accomplished in his magical year of 2000, and stands today as the lowest score under par in any major, ever.

The oldest winner of the British Open was "Old" Tom Morris at age 46, in 1867. And wouldn't you know it, the youngest winner of the British Open was "Young" Tom Morris at age 17, just one year later.

There are 9 courses in the British Open rotation. 5 are in Scotland (St. Andrews, Carnoustie, Muirfield, Turnberry, and Royal Troon). 4 are in England (Royal St.George's, Royal Birkdale, Royal Lytham & St Annes, and Royal Liverpool, aka Hoylake.)

The most British Open wins? It's gotta be Tom Watson doesn't it, with 5 (1975, 1977, 1980,1982 and 1983)? Sorry no....................Harry Vardon won 6 Opens (1896, 1898, 1899, 1903,1911, 1914). No wonder they named a "grip" after him!
