Early observations of PGA-Tour 2008
It’s raining outside…oh it’s raining in Hawaii too, but the PGA-Tour is underway for 2008 and here are a few observations as I watch on The Golf Channel.
A few new TV spots are being played, and here are my two favorites so far.
For the PGA-Tour: Jim Furyk eating dinner with wife Tabitha and two children and goes to open a fortune cookie. Obviously does not like what it says…he takes one from his wife, and so-on-and so-on. Next thing you know he has about 500 empty wrappers and he gets the one he wants. “In a few months you’ll be the champion.”
Nick Price and Paula Creamer for Bridgestone: Nick at a black board telling Paula what year parts of the golf ball technology, and they then have her as a young girl in 1992 getting a new puppie and 1999 with her first crush. Cute and pretty funny.
This time of year you see some new endorsement deals. The first one that sticks out is Rory Sabbatini who used to be with Nike (make note of his history trash talking Tiger) is now with Adams golf (mostly played by Champions Tour players.) Hmmm, did Tiger do some work in the endorsement department this year.
Also playing Adams is Aaron Baddeley who was with MacGregor, but the company fired their primary owner and CEO Barry Schneider late in 2007 with Greg Norman taking a very active role. But with Aaron and Greg both being from Australia, you may have thought otherwise.
Brandt Snedeker got engaged in the off season and would break his driver on the 17th hole.
Charles Howell III has a new bag and hat, as he moves from Callaway to Bridgestone.
Recently there was a decision against Titleist in a lawsuit by Callaway for patent issues with the Pro V golf ball. It will be curious to see the outcome of this. Likely you will see big payments to Callaway and allow the ball to be played this year, with changes in the future.
And how about Fresno native Nick Watney in the lead. Good guy very good player.
