U.S. Amateur is a beautiful mosaic of golf
The U.S. Amateur Championship is the crown for the top amateur golfer in the United States each year, but it is a beautiful mosaic of golf for the entire world.
There are players from many countries, including South Africa, France, Argentina, Canada and many parts of the United States. Many of the players from the foreign countries are attending college in the United States and then there are the players from the Walker Cup team from across the pond.
We have seen a great mix of match play contestants. One of the most intriguing was George Zahringer from New York against Gary Wolstenholme from England. Zahringer is in his mid-50’s and Gary turned 47 this week. These two veterans have played against each other before, and it was Zahringer that won in a match where neither of them played their best golf.
The winner this week will likely be a tall blond athlete, possibly the NCAA champion -- Jamie Lovemark from USC, or Eddie Olsen from Aptos who attends University of Nevada Las Vegas, but we have been treated to a great look at golf from many countries.
