Great spirits at the President’s Cup

The President’s Cup is a fairly new event on the professional golf scene, but it may start to grow on us, and gain popularity. Some great golf is part of it, but to see players take one for their team is just plain fun to watch.

Woody Austin will go down as one of the classic characters in sport, especially after one of his shots during second round play in Montreal. Not only did he take a shoe off to hit a shot from the water, but after his follow-through, fell head first into the water. We know Woody from a time where he bent the putter over his head, but recently we have known him for being one of the gutsiest players on the PGA-Tour.

Canadian Mike Weir was a captain’s pick by Gary Player for the international team, and he is being treated like a Rock Star. He has not disappointed so far, playing super golf.

The next President’s Cup will be played at venerable Harding Park in San Francisco. What a great event for the city of San Francisco and Northern California to host with the world watching. Will a player fall into Lake Merced? We only have 728 days to wait.
